Can the water softener be used in cold or freezing temperatures?

If the softener is going to be kept in freezing temperatures, we suggest draining the water from the softener. Freezing temps could cause the tank or distribution tube to crack. This would allow resin to escape from the softener. Some customers put the softener inside an insulated box with heat tape to keep the tank from freezing.

Draining Instructions
You can use either of these two options if draining water from unit is required. DO NOT REMOVE TOP CAP, HEAD OR RESIN.
▪ Use air source applied to inlet & allow water to drain from outlet.
▪ Turn unit upside down WITH THE HEAD AND CAP ON and allow water to drain from inlet/outlet.
