What is the difference between softening water and filtering water?
Filtering
separates out and collects particles when water moves through
a media. Water filters work great for removing sulfides and
other particles that give water a bad flavor or odor. Filters
are effective for small volumes of water.
Filtering water, however, does not remove dissolved minerals, such as iron, calcium and magnesium. These dissolved minerals are removed by using a water softener as described in the How does a water softener work section.
